At the end of 2017, ThaiBev Group in Thailand spent nearly 110,000 billion VND (nearly 5 billion USD) to own 53.59% of the equity of Saigon Beer - Alcohol - Beverage Corporation (Sabeco). However, more than 2 years after the acquisition, Sabeco's value so far has dropped below 100,000 billion VND (about 4.3 billion USD), which is lower than the amount that ThaiBev spent, and so equivalent to more than 50% reduction compared to the time ThaiBev bought. From the beginning of 2020, many difficulties have come to the beer industry. The first problem was Decree 100 on penalties for violation of alcohol concentration when operating a vehicle in traffic. Next was the Covid-19 pandemic, which made the business and production situation more turmoil. To summarize, since the 2020 Lunar New Year, Sabeco's market capitalization has evaporated nearly VND47,000 billion (down 32%).
